Day 2: Artwork Composition #2

After little over a month I’ve created a new variant of the cover art for my song Paradise because I wanted to milk some more ideas to see what how much more I could play around with the first piece. The visual is quite different at first glance and there are some simple elements that make it more distinct from my initial idea.

My idea for this variant is that it’s meant to draw more attention to the main elements of the cover art which is my photo of the cloud and the title of the song. While the image at large is a pleasing site (for me at least), I wanted to bring some more contrast to the main elements. Kind of like a box logo T-shirt concept except I didn’t want to leave the rest of the piece blank.

I started by taking the first composition and copying it as a new project file so I wouldn’t alter the original piece. I then put a black overlay on the image and set that overlay to 60-65% so that you can still see the image of the cloud. My next steps were trial and error, but in the end it all came together. I had to duplicate the image, scale it, and position it the same way as the original backdrop. I then cropped the duplicate image to appear as a cutout in the black overlay to show mostly cloud with a little bit of sky above it. Then I brought the text layer to the very front and moved it down into the “cutout.”
I wasn’t able to screen record because I think the program I used gave me malware :D fun -_-

And for the end product…

Cumulatively, this variant took me about a half hour to complete as the new elements were pretty simple to incorporate. I’ve already got an idea for another variant, so don’t sleep.
